“Zone 126” Forum on Education in Astoria–Tuesday, Aug. 27, 6:00 p.m.

I’m posting this ridiculously late. What with being so wound up in the final days of petitioning and all, well…unfortunately I let this event get lost in the shuffle. But here’s what it’s all about:

“Zone 126” is a non-profit organization formed by the Thomas & Jeanne Elmezzi Foundation. I don’t know a lot about the group, but they hosted us to a preparatory meeting at their offices on August 14, where they were very engaging and cordial. The forum will not be a debate as such, but there will be a moderator asking us all questions and keeping time rigorously. It should be a very interesting discussion.

Zone 126 focuses its efforts on Queensbridge, Ravenswood, and Astoria Houses, and the surrounding community. Their mission is to improve educational outcomes for children in the under-served community in the lower-income areas of zip code areas 11101, 11102, and 11106–hence the name, Zone 126.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held tomorrow evening (or tonight, if you’re reading this on Tuesday) at 6:00 PM. Again:

WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 27, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

WHERE: Variety Boys & Girls Club, 21-12 30th Road, Astoria

I believe all the City Council candidates for District 22 (Astoria/LIC) will be attending. Hope you can attend. If you can’t, I’m sure there will be other forums between now and Election Day.
